  1. What is photographic engraving?
Photographic engraving consists of taking a photograph and converting it to an engravable image format so that the laser engraver can engrave that image on the piece.  Photographs can be print or digital, and can be black and white or color.

  2. Can photo engraving be done on any material?
Yes, most any material can be photo engraved, but results will vary from material to material.  Wood, glass/crystal,     and plastics make for fantastic materials for photo engraving.  Small flat metals can be done with outstanding results on our impact engraver, but using the laser and metal marking compound for photographs yields a “just ok” look.

  3. What format does an image file need to be for photographic engraving?
We can handle most all image formats.  The important thing is that your digital image be 250 dpi or greater and “sized” at or larger than the engraving will be.  A lower DPI can be engraved, but best results are achieved from a 250 DPI or higher.

  4. Do you provide design and editing services for photographs?
Yes.  By default we will remove backgrounds at no additional charge.  Most all photo engravings look much nicer without the background of the photo.  But if additional design and editing services are needed such as pasting a subject in a different environment or cleaning up an old photo is charged at $60 per hour billed in 10 minute increments.

  5. Do you provide proofs of the engraving arrangement?
We do provide proofs on request.  What we will do is email you a digital image of the arrangement of text and/or photos.  This way you can view the overall arrangement and check for spelling and grammatical errors.
